OUR
MISSION

As local business owners, our mission is to increase footfall, opportunities and engagement in Preston City Centre. We want to put Preston back on the map, enhance Friargate and create a Christmas Market that can compete with other major cities and similar projects across the UK.

THE
EVENT

The concept will combine multiple local quality food vendors and
entertainment. Collectively, we’ll create a vibrant, exciting and unique festive family experience.

The area can include:
• Large Festive Bars
• Food Huts
• Ice Rink
• Retail Huts
• Festive Hot & Cold Drinks Bar
• Family Entertainment
• On Site Toilets
• 24 Hour Security

Date: Mid-November – Early January

WHY
PRESTON?

Preston has so much to offer, including many amazing individual traders and businesses. We believe we’re stronger together and after the struggles of COVID, this will drive the footfall back into Preston, so people can once again see how great it is.

Target Audience

Our target audience will be local families, couples, students and visitors to the city.

Market Research

We also conducted market research at several, already established Christmas markets, as well as Preston’s own Christmas bar, The Winter Lodge, and the results from our survey confirmed our initial thoughts; that a festive market was very much welcome!

JOBS & FOOTFALL

This exciting concept would create over 30 new jobs within the city and also increase footfall and animation, especially early evening which is much needed.

Each vendor will cater for different
demographics, many of which may not be current visitors to the city.

sustainability

Collectively, we will place significant focus on ensuring events are sustainable and minimise the impact on the environment.

We will look to remove the use of single plastic cups and move to paper. We will also offer refills on cups. We will work closely with all our food vendors who will also have to provide us with a sustainability report before we accept their application to trade at the markets. We will also reduce overall waste and recycle throughout.

STATS

PROPOSED AREA

Entertainment for
the family

Family entertainment plays a crucial role in creating a festive and enjoyable atmosphere. Preston Christmas Markets will be known for its charming and magical ambiance, and incorporating family- friendly entertainment enhances this experience for visitors of all ages throughout the festive period.

We aim to attract a diverse range of visitors, including families with children, couples, friends, and solo travellers. Family entertainment ensures that the Preston Christmas Market caters to the interests of all these groups, making it a destination for people of all ages.

Engaging entertainment encourages visitors to stay longer at
our markets. Families may spend more time exploring stalls,
shopping, and enjoying food and drinks while taking breaks to watch performances. This increases the chances of visitors making
purchases and supporting local vendors.

THE BAR

Building on the popularity of the hugely successful alpine-themed bar on Friargate, The Winter Lodge utilises the organisers’ in-depth are actively looking to expand their seasonal offering. Two purpose-built, temporary structures on Friargate would attract consumers from across the county to experience the unique festivities. The concept utilises the organiser’s in-depth knowledge of late-night, wet-led venues to attract revellers regularly throughout the festive period.

SURROUNDING
MARKET SPACE

Other suitable hospitality huts will be made available to vendors in the area surrounding the tent. We envisage an offering of foods such as German hot dogs, burgers, artisan pizza, Dutch pancakes & waffles.

The cost of suitable huts for this purpose would far outweigh what an average vendor could afford and as such would require supplemental funding from the council.

Additional space would also be available for temporary traders, who would be able to advertise that they are at the flag market on set days. This could include small local independent pizza vans and/or a series of quirky retail offerings that may only see a benefit from operating over a weekend.

The overall flag market offering would be much more attractive to visitors as a destination when marketed alongside various food options.
